Reading and Writing

“You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere.” – Lee Iacocca

Communication

The goal of reading and writing is to understand and express ideas. This will be done through reading, writing, and presentation. To prepare for college, students must also gain mastery of standard English by using proper grammar and expanding their vocabulary.

Reading

With a teacher, the student will plan and set goals for reading a variety of non-fiction and fiction books that they are interested in. Students also read a book as a class and discuss the meaning of those books.

Writing

Students are given regular assignments to develop opinions and express their ideas through essays and short stories focusing on various techniques to improve their writing style. Students are also encouraged to use email to write persuasive communications to negotiate the things that they want.

Grammar/Vocabulary

Students are provided regular exercises to master standard English grammar. These exercises are to cover all material presented in standardized entrance exams.
